Sam and I purchased hats to go with our steampunk outfits from Gentleman’s Emporium.  While Sam could get away without decorating his hat, I felt I would be amiss if I didn’t embellish mine appropriately.  I purchased black trim, ribbon, lace, a silk rose steam and this cool feather doodad all from Joann’s.  I knew I had to use the feather doodad when I saw it in the floral department- it just screamed Victorian lady’s hat.  The lace and ribbon are sewn on then the flowers and feathers are hot glued to the ribbon.  The trim is glued with fabric glue.  Overall I’m very pleased with how the hat turned out.

It didn’t really go with my outfit all that well so I feel like I need to make an outfit especially for it.  The trouble with that is I have such a hard time making decisions.  I’m not adventurous or patient enough to try and draft something for myself.  I need help making a paper tape dress form so I can do draping.  There are so many patterns out there already drafted to choose from that I can’t pick which one I want (buying them all would not be cost effective).  And then there’s deciding what fabrics and trims to use.  It’s a lot for me to think about since I don’t have a specific image in mind already.  Ugh.  Eventually I’ll come up with something though and I don’t have any steampunk activities planned for anytime soon so I’ve got time.  We’ll see what happens.
